Since I’ve been here for quite some time now, I might as well jot in some Aussie slang that I can think of right now.., =)

Australian – Aussie

Newcastle-ian (haha, people in Newcastle- we call, Novocastrian ) , or – Newie

Tasmanian – Tassie

Your welcome (After Thank You) – No worries

Sweater – Jumper

Pot-Luck (where everyone that comes to the event bring their own foods, to share with everybody else)– Bring a Plate

Football (Not Soccer) – Footy

Sandal (Selipar Jepun sort of – to be exact) – Thong

Hallo – Gday

Barbeque – Barby (they really have barbeques a lot, like REALLY Aussie, when you do barby, hehe)

Lollipop – Lollie

Guys- Bloke

Thanks – Tha

Their soccer team – Socceroos

French fries – Chips

Thanks – Cheers

Friend – Mate (they say lots and lots of “mate”), like thanks mate, gday mate

Bad mood – Cranky

Bring your own (usually for ‘bring your own’ alcohol or foods) – BYO

Container where we can put something cold in it and will stay cold – Esky

Doctors – G.P or General Practitioner

Lipstick – Lippy

People with bike, usually belong with gang, and ride big motorcycle like Harley – Bikie

It’s alright, like it’s OK – No drama

University – Uni

Mosquitos – Mozzie

Vegetables – Veggies

Traditional foods – Pavlova and Lamingtons (maybe meat pies as well, but apparently we can’t always eat them)

Pavlova – dessert –made up with egg white and lots of sugar, topped with mixed fruits

Lamingtons – sponge cakes coated with chocolate and shredded coconut
